ASUS ROG Strix RTX 5080 16GB vs Gigabyte RTX 5090 Gaming OC 32G for MSFS: 1.2-point gap, value decides.
The RTX 5080 scores 38.8/100 against the RTX 5090's 40/100 on our model-derived scale — a 1.2-point gap that translates to negligible real-world difference across the vast majority of MSFS sessions. The ROG Strix RTX 5080 holds its own through VFR cross-country legs and mid-density photogrammetry corridors, where its 16GB GDDR7 frame buffer handles DLSS Quality loads without breaking a sweat. The RTX 5090's 32GB VRAM and raw rasterization headroom pull ahead specifically during VR city flyovers over dense photogrammetry zones like central London or Manhattan with AI traffic maxed, where the 5080 starts hitting memory pressure.
Choose ASUS ROG Strix RTX 5080 OC if…
Choose ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 5080 16GB GDDR7 OC Gaming Graphics Card if you fly MSFS at 4K with DLSS on mid-to-high settings and want mid-range pricing without surrendering smooth frame times on busy IFR approaches into EGLL or KJFK.
Choose Gigabyte RTX 5090 Gaming OC if…
Choose Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5090 Gaming OC 32G Graphics Card if you run MSFS in VR with photogrammetry maxed over high-density urban zones, need the 32GB buffer for future-proofing, and are already spending at flagship tier.
Our take
With only a 1.2-point score gap, the RTX 5080 is the sharper buy for most sim pilots — the RTX 5090 is only justified if you're committed to VR at flagship settings and the premium price tier is already your budget.
