Not in our rankings
Amazon itself isn't selling the Ryzen 7 9800X3D right now (only other sellers, on back-order), and the Ryzen 7 9850X3D that replaced it costs about the same, so we rank that instead. See the current processor rankings for MSFS 2024 and X-Plane 12.

Amazon itself isn't selling the Core Ultra 5 245K right now (other sellers have a few left), so we no longer rank it. See the current processor rankings for MSFS 2024 and X-Plane 12.
AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D vs Intel Core Ultra 5 245K for MSFS: 22-point gap makes the choice clear.
The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D scores 100/100 against the Intel Core Ultra 5 245K's 78/100 on our model-derived scale, a 22-point gap that translates directly to smoother frame times in MSFS 2024's most CPU-demanding scenarios. The 9800X3D's 3D V-Cache architecture holds frame pacing together during dense AI traffic approaches into EGLL or JFK photogrammetry zones where the sim's main thread bottleneck hits hardest. The Core Ultra 5 245K remains a viable pick if you're flying lighter VFR cross-country legs on mid-range hardware and want to stay in the budget tier without leaving significant performance on the table.
Choose AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D if…
Choose AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Desktop Processor if you fly high-density online multiplayer sessions on VATSIM, push through photogrammetry-heavy city flyovers in VR, or need consistent frame pacing on approach into congested Class B airports.
Choose Intel Core Ultra 5 245K if…
Choose Intel Core Ultra 5 245K Desktop Processor if you primarily fly uncongested VFR routes with live weather and lighter AI traffic loads, and you're building or upgrading a budget-tier rig where the score gap is an acceptable trade-off.
Our take
The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D is the clear recommendation for MSFS 2024 — its 22-point lead on our model-derived scale reflects a real-world advantage exactly where the sim stresses the CPU most.
