HP Reverb G2 Virtual Reality Headset vs Meta Quest 3 for X-Plane 12: Marginal Score Gap, Sharper Panel Wins.
The HP Reverb G2 rates 82.8/100 against the Meta Quest 3's 82.5/100 on our model-derived scale — a 0.3-point gap that is effectively a dead heat in real-world use. The Reverb G2's wider 114° FOV and LCD panel clarity give it an edge during dense photogrammetry approaches into EGLL, where reading taxiway signage and instrument text in the virtual cockpit demands every pixel. The Quest 3's wireless capability via Air Link eliminates cable drag during VFR cross-country legs and longer online multiplayer sessions, making it the more flexible choice for pilots who move around their rig.
Choose HP Reverb G2 if…
Choose HP Reverb G2 Virtual Reality Headset if you fly primarily tethered to a high-end GPU and need maximum panel sharpness for IFR approaches into photogrammetry-heavy airports like KLAX or EGLL in X-Plane 12.
Choose Meta Quest 3 if…
Choose Meta Quest 3 if you want the freedom of wireless VR during extended VFR cross-country legs or online multiplayer sessions in X-Plane 12 and can tolerate a 4° narrower FOV.
Our take
The 0.3-point score gap is marginal and should not drive your decision — at the same price tier, the Quest 3's wireless flexibility edges out the Reverb G2's slightly wider FOV for most X-Plane 12 pilots who fly varied mission profiles.
